Happy Fun Fat Friday! Today, we are focusing on some cool facts about cats!
If you live with more than one cat, have you ever wondered whether they know each other's names?
Well, apparently, some of them do!
Researchers discovered that cats living in households with other cats can learn to associate their companions' names with their faces.
Cats pick up on these associations simply through everyday life, hearing us call their companions by name and observing what's happening around them.
Now, here's something else you might find interesting.
When cats encounter something unfamiliar, they may actually use their person's emotional reaction to help decide what to do.
In one study, researchers introduced cats to an unfamiliar object and observed how they responded when their person reacted positively or negatively. The cats frequently looked between their person and the object, and their behavior changed depending on the emotional message they received.
So, while your cat might appear to be completely uninterested in what you're doing, there's a good chance they're picking up on more than you think!
I love considering what these discoveries tell us about the lives our animals experience alongside us. They have their own relationships, preferences, ways of learning, and ways of making sense of their surroundings.
The more we understand these aspects of their lives, the more we can appreciate just how complex and individual they really are.
At PAWS, we believe that understanding animals as individuals is an important part of supporting their well-being and creating environments where they can thrive.

Wishing you a wonderful Friday!
You may already know that we share regular posts on the PAWS Instagram and Facebook every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
And we understand that not everyone who is part of the PAWS community follows us on Social Media, so we have decided to start bringing some of these posts to our PAWS Blog. We cannot promise all of them will make it onto the blog, though we will do our best. If you would like to ensure you receive all of our postings, please follow us on our Social Media Accounts.
We are currently fundraising to help establish our permanent sanctuary and reach the amount needed to unlock our matching grant. Your support helps us move closer to creating a space where relationships like these can be nurtured every day.
Every donation and share helps us move one step closer to reaching our goal!
