We have so much going on in our lives, and sometimes we're so caught up in thinking about what we need to do next, what happened yesterday, or everything else that's on our minds that we forget to pay attention to what's happening right here, in this very moment.
One of the wonderful things about mindfulness is that we can practice it anywhere, at any time.
For today's Mindful Monday, I'd love to invite you to try a simple mindfulness practice.
Take a deep breath, and notice:
5 things you can hear. Maybe it's the birds outside, the sound of the wind, your dog's breathing, or even the quiet hum of something in your home.
4 things you can smell. Perhaps it's your morning coffee, the fresh air coming through a window, or the familiar scent of an animal curled up beside you.
3 things you can see. Look around and notice the little details you might ordinarily overlook. The sunlight coming through the window, the colors around you, or the expression on your animal's face.
Take your time with each one. You don't need to rush through the exercise or find anything particularly special. Simply allow yourself to notice what's already here.
Sometimes we forget just how much there is to experience in even the simplest moments of our lives. And when we give ourselves permission to slow down and become more aware, we may begin to notice things that have been there all along.
Our animals can be wonderful companions in these moments. Think about how much time they spend exploring their surroundings through their senses, listening to sounds we might not notice, or investigating a scent that seems completely uninteresting to us!
Perhaps today we can take a little inspiration from them and spend a few moments simply experiencing the world around us.
What did you notice when you took a moment to pay attention?
You may already know that we share regular posts on the PAWS Instagram and Facebook every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
And we understand that not everyone who is part of the PAWS community follows us on Social Media, so we have decided to start bringing some of these posts to our PAWS Blog. We cannot promise all of them will make it onto the blog, though we will do our best. If you would like to ensure you receive all of our postings, please follow us on our Social Media Accounts.
PAWS is dedicated to creating a sanctuary rooted in compassionate care, animal wellness, human wellness, and respect for the lives entrusted to us.
We are currently raising $55,000 to help us take the next steps and unlock matching grant funding. Every donation, share, and person who believes in this vision helps us move closer.
